News and Notes: Ohio Congressional Races

Items of interest:

OH-02 - Ben Fischer of the Cincinnati Enquirer slams as "wrong" a radio ad by Rep. Jean Schmidt (R). The ad falsely portrays the 2007 appointment of challenger Dr. Victoria Wulsin (D) as chancellor of Mount Kenya University, a newly formed institution in Thika, Kenya, as taking on a full-time job. In fact, the title of chancellor in Kenya is largely ceremonial, with no duties that cannot be carried out by telephone or email.

OH-07 - Challenger Sharen Neuhardt (D) announced today that she has been endorsed by Hillary Clinton:

“It is going to take hard work and determination to deliver the change the 7th District needs. But we know Sharen Neuhardt will do it and she’ll do it with a Democratic majority in Congress. Let’s move forward and elect Sharen so that we can begin to bring jobs back to the 7th District, provide basic, affordable health care to every person in the District, reduce the number of home foreclosures, and refuel the area with green jobs and green technology,” said Clinton. “The people of the 7th District have suffered for far too long under failed Republican policies. Sharen Neuhardt will be the freshest voice this District has heard since the Great Depression. She will also be the first woman to stand up and deliver new ideas that this District desperately needs. We cannot let this moment of tremendous change slip away."

*** Meanwhile, Neuhardt has web ad out especially for Halloween:

OH-12 - Bonobo reports on an absurd attack mailer from Rep. Pat Tiberi (R), accusing challenger David Robinson (D) of lying based on an Ohio Elections Commission complaint that has already been dismissed. Earlier Bonobo opined that the attack mailer suggests Tiberi is feeling the heat from Robinson. Bonobo's hunch is backed up by this item in Politico:
"Obama's strength outside Columbus threatens Rep. Pat Tiberi, a typically safe incumbent who is feeling the heat this fall, according to two lawmakers familiar with his plight."

OH-15 - The Cook Political Report just upgraded this race from "Toss-Up" to "Leans Democratic." *** Steve Stivers (R) campaigning in a sorority house??? Not a good move for a newly-married candidate who famously said of female high schools students he was ogling that he's "allowed to window shop, just not buy." *** Joseph at Plunderbund relates the bizarre endorsement of Mary Jo Kilroy (D) today by independent anti-abortion candidate Don Elijah Eckhardt (I) -- on the grounds that she is older than Steve Stivers (R) and therefore won't be around in Congress as long!
