DEVELOPING : Marietta State Rep. Ted's "Huge Surprise?"

Could Governor Strickland's "huge surprise" for running mate be a female State Representative from Southeast Ohio who ran in 2004 as a supporter of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)? Possibly.

According to a reliable source, State Rep. Jennifer Garrison of Marietta may be under serious consideration for the post being vacated by Lee Fisher, who is seeking a seat in the U.S. Senate.

Garrison, who defeated Republican Nancy Hollister (a DOMA opponent, believe it or not) in 2004, is in her third term and is the current Majority Floor Leader.

The Governor's Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. More as we know it here at OhioDaily.

Gov. Strickland would never do this

Governor Strickland would never choose this person. She would be a slap in the face to the glbt community who worked so hard to get him elected in 2006.

To be honest, I don't think she should be in leadership at the state house. And not for the reason you think. She ran a despicable campaign full of lies....she doesn't deserve to represent anyone in Ohio. If she couldn't beat Nancy Hollister on the issues - actual issues that affect her constituents - before running to the extreme militia movement right with gay marriage then she doesn't deserve to actually vote on legislation.

I think it is a huge shame on Ohio Democrats that she is even allowed to serve in leadership. Her nomination as Lt. Governor would never happen.
